Environmental Assessment

In its continuing commitment to inform the Canadian public about important policy issues, CARC is pleased to make available on its website, the recently published paper by Andrew Nikiforuk titled, "The Nasty Game: The Failure of Environmental Assessment in Canada".

The paper draws on several project assessments, a number in which CARC was an intervenor. As well, several current and past members of CARC were interviewed by Mr. Nikiforuk during his investigations, though the views expressed by the author may not represent those of the Canadian Arctic Resources Committee.

Mr. Nikiforuk is a Calgary-based journalist with wide experience in environmental reporting. The paper was commissioned by the Walter and Duncan Gordon Foundation of Toronto, Canada.

CARC hopes that in making the paper available to the Canadian public, informed citizens will understand more clearly the significance of the issues that confront us now as major industrial, mineral, and petroleum projects across the country are launched into the assessment process. It is important that informed voices be heard.
