Members' Corner

by Karen Flynn

Happy New Year To all CARC members and supporters! Our fall/winter 1995-1996 fund-raising campaign to protect the Porcupine caribou herd and fight plans by some American politicians to allow oil and gas drilling on the herd's calving grounds has raised $40,000. Our target is $50,000. Over 300 members donated amounts greater than $75 and received the recently reprinted CARC book Caribou and the barren-lands by George Calef. Enclosed with this Members' Update is a reply coupon and return envelope. If you have not given in this campaign we invite you to do so.

CARC's search for new members continues. We recently completed list exchanges with the Arctic Society and the Canadian Institute of Environmental Law and Policy. Some of you do not want yours traded with other organizations and we will comply with your wishes.

We recently produced an attractive flyer promoting Northern Perspectives. It will be inserted in selected publications, including those produced by the Canadian Nature Federation and the Canadian Circumpolar Institute. If you have any ideas about how to attract people to CARC, please let me know.
